Tax Return Filing Help 2008

Programs

50 Years, 50 Families - Free Furniture

United Way of Allegheny County is partnering with Roomful Express furniture to present the 50 Years, 50 Families program. The program will provide up to $3,000 worth of new home furnishings to 50 deserving families throughout the Pittsburgh region. Two recipients will be selected on a weekly basis from April 4th through September 3rd, 2008. One recipient's story will be featured each Thursday evening on the KDKA TV news at 5 or 6PM. Families or individuals can be nominated for the program by completing a nomination form at www.50years50families.com or by picking up an application at any Roomful Express location. Those submitting nominations to the program must write a 250 word essay about why the family they are nominating needs and deserves new home furnishings. Judging will be based on compelling need and the circumstances leading to that need.

Recreation

International Evening of Music and Dance

Watch performers from many countries: Venezuela, Brazil, Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Middle East. The show will take place on Saturday, May 10th at 6:pm at the Goodwill, Foltz Building, 26th and East Carson Streets Southside. Race for the Cure - Maratón del Cancer del Seno

Mother's Day, May 11, 2008 at Schenley Park at Flagstaff Hill, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Late online registration will close at 7 AM, May 8, 2008. http://race.pittsburghraceforthecure.org. Late registration the day of the race, please, be there at 7am. There will be entertainment, booths, and children activities. If you don't want to register you can watch the marathon and have a great time.

Pittsburgh Folk Festival

The 52nd Annual Folk Festival will be on May 16, 17, 18 2008 at David D. Lawrence Convention Center. A weekend-long multicultural celebration of more than 30 nationalities featuring traditional ethnic entertainment, food and refreshments. Shop in the international bazaar, learn a dance, see traditional crafts or visit the cultural exhibits to learn more about a country and its people. The Latino presentation will be on Saturday 17. Diversity SoccerFest 2008

The Hispanic Center invite you to the Diversity SoccerFest 2008. This event will be on August 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24 2008 from 9am to 3pm. The games will be at North Park Soccer Fields (20 minutes of Pittsburgh in Wexford off Rt. 19. Activities include:

Spanish Infant-Toddler Language and Early Literacy Activities

These materials include twenty home and community activities for adults and children birth to three that encourage early language and literacy development. They are appropriate for children with disabilities as well as children who are developing typically. "Entrepreneurial Thursdays at Sassy Marie's"

The show will run every Thursday from 5:30pm - 8pm at Sassy Marie's (formerly, the legendary jazz club known as the James Street Tavern) on Pittsburgh's Historic North Side. Sassy Marie's is located at the corner of James Street and Foreland Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212. The show will be held in the newly renovated 2nd floor room, which has a separate entrance on James Street.

Seminars

Free Training for Bilingual Women

Fourteen bilingual women recently received certificates from the first peer coach training class and will now begin working with Latina clients. A new class is forming for another set of bilingual women. This free training is sponsored by the Latino Catholic Social Service Center and the Benedictine Sisters of Pittsburgh. After receiving training, per coaches are asked to coach at least one other Latino person over a period of several months. The goal of the grant is to provide mutual support within the Latino community and help newly arrived immigrants adjust to their new environment. Anyone interested in learning more about this program is invited to a bilingual information meeting on Sunday, April 27 following mass at 1:30pm at the Latino Social Service Office in St. Hyacinth Church (3201 Craft Place in Oakland). 15th Annual Family Support Conference

The 15th Annual Family Support Conference will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at the Westin Convention Center Pittsburgh Hotel. This year's theme "What's Love Got to Do with It? Salud para Niños & CHP Injury Prevention Program - Home Safety Event for Families
You and your family are invited to participate in the first CHP - Salud Para Niños Home Safety Event in Spanish in which for the first time ever the CHP Home Safety Handbook in Spanish will be launched. Participants will learn about home safety and will receive prizes. Registration is free. A light lunch will be provided. Adolescent Clinic in Spanish
The Division of Adolescent Medicine and the program Salud Para Niños of the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh offer every Thursday at 3:30 P.M. general medical services for adolescents in Spanish. Services include check-ups, sick visits, reproductive health care (except for pregnancy follow-ups and prenatal care), prevention and treatment of sexual transmitted infections and management of issues common among teens such as smoking, drug use and behavior problems. These services will be provided to patients who have health insurance and choose CHP Adolescent Medicine Division Dr. Loreta Matheo as their PCP. New Spanish Speaking Physician's Assistant at Magee Womens Hospital
Alexandra Vaccaro, PA-C has joined the Outpatient Clinic staff at Magee-Womens Hospital. Alexandra is a Spanish speaking physician's assistant specializing in women's health, specifically obstetrics, gynecology and family planning. She is available to see patients Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm. Women can be seen at Magee-Womens Hospital without insurance coverage through a special contract with Adagio Health. Family planning and basic womenís health services are covered: history, physical examination, annual exams, pregnancy testing, selected types of blood work, tests for sexually transmitted infection and family planning methods. Obstetrical services require insurance coverage or eligibility for medical assistance through the state o"0" Pennsylvania. Center for Diseace Control (CDC) New Website
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has redesigned its Spanish-language Web site: CDC en Español. Available at http://www.cdc.gov/spanish, CDC en Español is easier to use and includes a more powerful search engine. The new site provides Spanish-speaking communities and families with up-to-date information on immunization, nutrition, disease-prevention and other health topics.

"9 Luna's" Support Group for Pregnant Latino Women
